by joining the Getaway Sailing Club.  Started in 1987, our Club welcomes all who have an interest in sailing! 
From beginner to advanced, you'll have the opportunity to sail a rangeof high-quality sailboats.  Your time will be maximized sailing our fleet at a fraction of the cost of boat ownership.  When you return to the docks, just stow the boat properly and leave the rest to us!

Are you really ready to buy a boat?  The Getaway Sailing Club offers an inexpensive way to learn about sailing and sailboats before you make the significant commitment of time and money to own a boat.  For about what most boatowners pay just for slip fees, you can sail an entire fleet of boats as often as you would like.  If you are new to sailing, or if your skills are a little rusty, our sailing school can get you going quickly and easily.  Before you go off

The Getaway Sailing Club offers membership at three levels.  Simply choose the level that fits your needs and lifestyle.  Whether you are looking to get out on the water for a quick afternoon sail on  our fast and fun Ideal 18
or Sonar 23 , an extended day and a night or two on one of our Cal 22's,   or a relaxed week of beautiful sunsets and cruising the Chesapeake Bay on one of our  beautiful Cruisers, the Getaway Sailing Club offers something for every sailing enthusiast.


Our prime Canton location offers all the shopping conveniences any sailor needs to get underway for a few hours of daysailing or provisioning your cruise for an entire week.

Level One:  Ideal and Sonar

You will have full access to our fleet of eight Sonar 23s and our two Ideal 18s.

Sonars are exceptionally fast and comfortable for up to 6 people. Our Ideal 18s, which are rigged for solo sailing, are also very fast and exciting to sail. To prepare for this level of membership, we recommend taking the ASA101 Basic Keelboat.

Level Two:  Cal 22'

This level of membership provides unlimited access to the fleet of CAL 22s and boats on Level One membership which consist of the Ideal and Sonar.

CALs can be checked out for up to three days. CALs have new 8hp Honda outboard engines, lifelines, furling-jib systems, jiffy reefing on the main and basic equipment for overnight cruising.

Level 3:  The Cruiser

The Cruiser Membership provides unlimited access to ALL the boats in our fleet! Our beautiful Cruisers
are equipped for extended cruising on the Bay.

In addition to our Baltimore location, our Cruiser Members have the option of sailing out of of our second location in Annapolis. The door has now opened  for members to enjoy a different cruising ground by choosing to board a boat in the port of Annapolis.

Cruisers may check out  boats for up to 7 days from 9am on the 1st day until sunset on the 7th day.

Frequently Asked Questions about Getaway Sailing Club Memberships

Q: Do I sign a contract when I join?
A: Yes. The Club Contract is available to download for your review. Please call us with any questions.

Q: What if I'm not sure of my ability to skipper a boat?
A: After joining the club you will get a thorough check-out on each of the boats you wish to sail. If you decide that additional instruction is needed to get you up to speed, we offer private classes at 10% discount.

Q: How long are the boats available for use during the year?
A: Our season officially begins on April 15 and ends on November 1, but we keep CALs and Sonars in the water during the winter months.

Q: Will I have trouble getting a boat when I want one?
A: We recommend making reservations as far in advance as possible especially if the weather report is calling for perfect weekend sailing. Depending upon the level of your membership , you will have access to up to 20 boats.

Q: Can I take non-member sailing? And, is there an additional charge?
A: You are free to take anyone sailing whether they are a member or not. There is no additional fee.

Q: How do I make a reservation for a boat?
A: All reservations should be made through our online system.You will be issued a user ID and a password when you register for the club. Boat availability will be shown once you log in.

Q: How often can I use the boats?
A: You can sail as often as you like, but you may only have two reservations pending at any given time.
