International Sailing Adventures
|
Go
Ahead! Treat yourself to an adventure you’ll never forget.
You
can sail the world’s best sailboats in the world’s
finest sailing regions; and, while you're there tour the best
the country has to offer.
Having sailed in the waters and toured the land sites prior
to planning the adventures, we have developed a wealth of
knowledge and understanding of the various charter agencies,
sailing regions and touring spots and we are prepared to guide
you to the very best. Be assured that you will sail to those
special coves, anchorages and waterfront towns, experience
the finest restaurants and see the best sights and shopping
which each region has to offer. And, that you will do it safely
and in comfort with interesting people.
What are the boats like?
The boats we charter are the finest available for charter
in each sailing region. They range in length from about 30
feet to over 50 feet. They are modern boats with full galley,
head, hot showers, and comfortable bunks.
Do I need to know
how to sail to take part in a cruise?
Sailing Adventures are designed for both experienced sailors
and those who have had little or no sailing experience. For
those who are experienced sailors, the cruises provide an
opportunity to practice, renew and develop new cruising skills.
For those who have had little or no sailing experience, the
Sailing Adventures are an ideal chance to acquire the basics
of sailing and cruising or to relax and enjoy the scenery.
If you are eager to learn, you will get practice in navigation,
anchoring, helmsmanship, reefing and heavy weather sailing
techniques and maneuvering under power.
Groups from Getaway Sailing have sailed the British Virgin
Islands (BVI), the Greek Islands and the coasts of Ireland,
Turkey and Sweden. One of our trips was right here in the
US of A. Our San Francisco Bay trip included a side trip to
Yosemite where we did some wonderful hiking and climbing.
View pictures of these trips – British Virgin Islands
– Ireland – Turkey – Sweden.
BVI-January 2007
We will be leaving on Saturday January 20th and returning on January 27th . We will be cruising the islands on a spacious 40-50ft Catamaran. A captain will be provided for each of the boats in order to ensure complete relaxation and to provide training for anyone who is not experienced with sailing a large Cat. We will create an itinerary and take care of all provisioning for the trip.
Cost:
The cost of this trip is $3500 per
person which includes round trip airfare, charter of the sailboats
and a skipper for each boat, all meals eaten aboard. (15% discount given to groups of 4 or more.)

Sail Italy

The
Getaway group will leave New York on a Saturday, arrive
in Rome early Sunday morning and check in to a three-star
hotel (Hotel Fontanella Borghese). We will be forced
to spend a week of touring, eating fantastic Italian
food in wonderful restaurants, shopping in some of the
most elegant stores in Europe and hanging out in the
world’s most charming, romantic and beautiful
city. Just to mention a few sights within walking distance
of the hotel – Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Trevi
Fountain, Saint Peter’s, the Vatican and a limitless
supply of museums and statues; and, then there are the
cafes with the very best cappuccino and gelato. Poor
us!
There will be guided tours available but most of the
time you’ll be left alone to explore.
On Saturday the 20th, we will leave Rome (sob sob) for
a week of sailing (hoorah!).Having
mentioned the weather, be aware that this will be unsheltered,
blue-water sailing and it may be quite challenging at
times; but, our boats are built to sail in these waters.
I have reserved two (2001) Bavaria yachts; one is a
47 footer and the other a 44. We will limit the number
of sailors to 16 including Ann and me. I have also engaged
the services of an Italian skipper for each boat. I
sailed a Bavaria 34’ in this region and was very
impressed. They are solid, well equipped, handsome boats
and sail wonderfully even in the 35+ knots we experienced
the first day.

We
will catch the flight home from Rome on Saturday, September
27 (sob sob); but, we will do another great trip next year
(hoorah).
Cost:
Although
the costs are not yet finalized, you can figure on about $3300
per person which will include the round-trip airfare from
New York to Rome, hotel accommodations while in Rome, round-trip
transportation from Rome to Cala Galera, the boats and skippers
and a welcome dinner in Rome. The hotel accommodations include
a continental breakfast each day. If you would rather get
your own airplane ticket, that’s fine; we will just
deduct the cost of the ticket. You might want to do this in
order to extend the trip. The same goes for the hotel reservations.
To reserve your spot on our next Italian Sailing Adventure,
please call, 410-342-3110, or email, info@getawaysailing.com.
